DIY Bath Bombs

DIY Bath Bombs

2020 brought a lot of stress amiright!? I had always loved bath salts but typically avoided bath bombs because I was worried about the perfumes and toxic ingredients. I decided to find a DIY recipe that I could be confident in and know exactly what was in it. This recipe creates beautiful bath bombs that would make a perfect gift or to lavish on yourself. I decided to leave them white and incorporate dried flowers because I didn’t want to use food coloring. You can also make some all-natural dye if you’d rather do that! Let’s soak the stress and worries away. I’ll walk you through step by step along with some photos on how to make them. You’ll also get to hear what NOT to do. (OOPS!)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Baking Soda
  • ½ Cup Citric Acid (You can find this at hobby lobby or a craft store, or grab it HERE)
  • 3 Tablespoons of melted coconut oil (Linked HERE)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Unscented Epsom Salt (Linked Here)
  • 8-10ish drops of Young Living Essential Oils (I did Peppermint, Stress Away, and Vanilla) (You can grab oils HERE. Then you’ll also be added to our community for product education!)
  • Optional: Add dried flowers (I used dried rose petals. Linked HERE )
  • Bath Bomb Mold (I grabbed mine at hobby lobby but I will probably buy something like THIS for next time. I think the stainless steel would work better.)

These measurements will make 3 (1.75ish) balls, so double or triple the recipe depending on how many you need. The size of your mold will determine how many you get out of it.

  1. First you will mix the baking soda, citric acid, and epsom salt together in a big bowl. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT accidentally inhale a ton of citric acid when closing the bag. lol. It burns and you will lose your sense of smell for about 2 weeks. Speaking from experience…
  2. Next, you will mix in the melted coconut oil as well as your choice of essential oils. I chose to use peppermint, stress away, and vanilla. Smells just like vanilla mint and is absolutely delicious. After using oils for about 7 years, I am compelled to tell you that not all oils are the same. I have heard of so many horror stories of chemical burns, etc. and it’s just not worth it! The only oils my family and I would ever use would be Young Living because of the purity and quality. I could tell you thousands of testimonies — physical, emotional, sleep, hormones, etc. that we have experienced. We love them so much and I am 10000% confident that they’re the best.
  3. Once you’ve adding the oils, mix well. Lastly, mix in the dried rose petals.
  4. You’ll spoon the mixture into both halves of the mold. Make sure to OVERFILL so that the ball will stick together. Next, you’ll press the two pieces together and twist slightly back and forth until the sides are touching.
  5. Carefully open the mold and set the bath bomb on some wax paper (or a hard surface) to dry for about 8-12 hours.

TIP: I noticed when the balls stopped sticking together towards the end the mixture was a little too “wet” so I just sprinkled some extra baking soda in there.

That’s it! Super easy — just don’t inhale the citric acid! lol

They make such a perfect gift too! I just used some decorative tins (which held 3 bath bombs each) and added some beautiful ribbon as well as an adorable affirmation card! I got mine from Casey Wiegand. (Here)
